Historic Ampol Women’s State of Origin series set for Brisbane kick-off

The National Rugby League (NRL) today started the countdown to a historic Ampol Women’s State of Origin Series in 2024, with the official launch marking four weeks to go until Game One in Brisbane on Thursday, May 16.

The Suncorp Stadium clash is set to open the first-ever three-game Women’s Origin series and takes place on the eve of NRL Magic Round Brisbane 2024 (May 17-19), kicking off a spectacular four-day festival of Rugby League in the Queensland capital.

It will be the first time that a standalone Women’s Origin game has been held at Suncorp Stadium and follows a record-breaking year for the event, with new attendance and broadcast benchmarks set across both games in 2023, including a crowd of 18,275 in Townsville.

The NRL’s EGM Elite Football, Graham Annesley, said, “Last year’s Ampol Women’s State of Origin Series was an incredible contest that set new records and left everyone wanting to see more. This first three-game series is testament to the quality of the teams and the strength of the rivalry they’ve built together.

“For our fans, the series is a chance to be part of history, get behind the teams and break the Women’s Origin crowd record again this year, starting with Game One in Brisbane.”

Ampol Women’s State of Origin is proudly supported by the Queensland Government, via Tourism and Events Queensland, together with Brisbane City Council, via the Brisbane Economic and Development Agency.

Queensland’s Tourism and Sport Minister Michael Healy welcomed the countdown to what will be a huge weekend of Rugby League at Suncorp Stadium.

“The atmosphere right across Brisbane and around the state will be electric as we kick off a huge weekend of footy with what promises to be a thrilling match-up between Queensland and New South Wales’ best female rugby league players. I know Queenslanders will be right behind their team again this series.

“We are so proud to be supporting the Women’s State of Origin and I’m looking forward to seeing fans come out in their droves to support this game, to our visitor economy buzzing and to a wonderful start for our festival of footy.”

Series partner Ampol will once again showcase the game’s up-and-coming junior players through the Ampol Little Origin program, with activations occurring at halftime of all men’s and women’s Origin matches.

Tickets for Ampol Women’s State of Origin 2024 start at just $15 for adults and $35 for families, via nrl.com/tickets.
